Recruiting at Reno & Zahm LLP

Most of our hiring is done through our summer associate program. We participate in on-campus recruiting at a number of law schools throughout the Midwest during the late summer and early autumn. While we occasionally hire attorneys outside of our summer associate program, our hiring process is focused on the summer associate program to best serve the young attorneys who will become a part of our team.

We hire our summer associates with the hope that they will fit in with our firm as associates. We look for people who are intelligent and personable, people who are entrepreneurial yet have a sense of teamwork. We also look for people who are committed to our community. The Rock River Valley and surrounding regions are filled with vibrant communities, colorful people, and hard-working businesses. These regions are also filled with our friends, our family, and our clients. Our tireless legal work is just one way that the attorneys here help the region, we are also actively involved in the betterment of our community through various services and organizations.

Summer associates learn how law is practiced. They learn to take their classroom knowledge and apply it to the everyday real-life problems of our clients. Our summer associates have a unique opportunity to be exposed to a variety of areas of practice. We ensure that when the summer associate returns to school in the fall they have the best understanding possible of the skills and knowledge required to be an attorney. Our firm is large enough to offer a diverse range of projects and clients, yet small enough to avoid the traps and problems of large big-city firms.

Our general practice largely consists of commercial clients from the Rock River Valley and surrounding regions, their owners and employees. We assist our corporate clients with their everyday business needs, litigation, zoning, environmental issues, intellectual property, and employee relations. We assist the business owners with their trust and estate planning, business succession plans, and other personal needs whether it be family-related or a personal injury. Not all of our clients are business owners, and we assist other members of our community via our practices in personal injury litigation, family law, misdemeanor criminal law, and real estate law. We also support our extended legal community by acting as local counsel and serving as appellate litigators as needed.

We work hard to serve the needs of our clients. We also know that time away from the office is equally as valuable as time at the office. We encourage our attorneys to participate in community events and organizations, and to attend to their own families and personal lives. We do not have hard line rules regarding billable hours because we believe that the needs of the clients and the needs of the community and family should come first. We reward our attorneys for taking care of clients' needs correctly and efficiently, not for the number of hours that our clients are billed.

Our firm offers a challenging and rewarding work environment for any attorney or law student to thrive in. If you are interested in Reno & Zahm LLP, please check your school's on-campus recruiting schedule.
