Abigail (“Abby”) Sissel is an Associate at Reno & Zahm LLP, where her practice focuses on employment law and bankruptcy. Mrs. Sissel is admitted to practice law in Illinois.
Raised in Colorado, Mrs. Sissel graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she earned her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology with a focus on the criminal justice system. Prior to attending law school, Mrs. Sissel earned her paralegal certificate from the University of Texas at El Paso and worked as a real estate legal assistant at Gordon, Davis, Johnson & Shane, P.C., while living in El Paso during her husband’s military service.
In 2020, prior to her undergrad graduation, Mrs. Sissel published the article, “Keep Calm. Don’t Panic. It’s Just Anxiety. (not!),” which examined gender bias and the dismissal of women’s symptoms in medical diagnosis during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mrs. Sissel received her law degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law. During law school, she worked for two years as the first second-year law student Graduate Assistant at the Health Advocacy Clinic at Hesed House, the second largest homeless shelter in Illinois, informing guests about available legal services and assisting with expungements, Social Security appeals and denials, name changes, and powers of attorney. She also gained experience in both public interest and government practice through an internship with the Department of Justice, Executive Office for Immigration Review, as well as working with the Dekalb County Public Defender’s Office.
